What I Wore: Super Sales

Hello!

I hope you all had a glorious Thanksgiving. I love this time of the year, not for the food, but because Black Friday happens. It gets crazy my mom, two sisters and I leave on Thanksgiving night, (at 6:50pm this year) and go to this mall that opens at 10, used to be midnight. Then we continue on to Lansing and shop there. We got home at 7:30 this year. It gets a little crazy.

This year was a total success. I went to Banana Republic where there was a 50% off sale. Well if you shop the clearance rack and add in 50% you get some stellar deals. It helps that I waited in line to win a $10.00 gift card. Making my total purchase of two button up shirts, a skirt, and a dress roughly $6.00!!! That is where today's outfit came from:

This is the pattern of one of the shirts

Ignore the terrible quality and focus on the neckline

annnd the skirt I got, it was chilly today so it was worn with leggings and knee highs.

The Deal With Denim

No matter the trend or the season jeans are always in. Unfortunatley they are getting a bit pricey unless you go to a supermarket like Walmart but sometimes you sacrafice fit and quality for that. Most of the girls I know go American Eagle and Buckle for their jeans, there are the few that are paying for Silvers and 7 For All Mankind. For those of you that arent sure these are jeans that range from $30 to $200.

That's almost much as I paid for my textbooks this semester. I'd like to say I could never justify that kind of spending but I have blown almost whole paychecks on clothes before. One of my favorite justifications is "Oh it will last long so I will not have to buy more later." This can be true. One way to keep it true is to follow this little guide to keeping your denim alive.

For your ripped jeans:
Biggest white girl problem is yanking your jeans on too fast and ripping your pre-ripped jeans. Honest though you just paid $10 to $15 dollars more for that perfect rip so it is a bit upsetting.
Prevent: Ways to prevent this diliema include making a simple stitch around the hole. This
makes it a bit harder to rip, and protects it in the washer. Another option is to get
those little iron on patches and line the inside with that.
When it happens:  Simply sew up the sides that ripped in a matching color
For the everyday:
+You do not need to wash them every wear. It sounds gross but most of us are not doing grody activities that render our denim unwearable.
+Dryers are bad. It screws with fabrics. So only do it on low settings or hand them upside down. I prefer hang drying as it reduces shrinkage.
+Hand washing is a good idea because it is gentle on the fibers.
Don't fade away:
Keep your dark jeans from fading out.
+Wash them inside out.
+Some say adding a bit of vinegar on the first wash can help.
+Hand washing (again!) helps them from fading.

"rock bottom"

So, I have a new found fascination with Tyler Oakley. He actually went to my college and was my boyfriends floor mentor at one point (yes, I am bragging). Well if you are new to the sensation that is Tyler Oakley he is a big hit on YouTube and Tumblr. I caught this video once day while stalking his tumblr. It made me start thinking. Is that really rock bottom?

yep.

Although I do not have a stack of sweatpants I have my lounge sweatpants and the ones that are acceptable for public. This should not be allowed. I will give you the pass if you have an early class or you're running around campus/small back-woods town. Other than that. NO!

So here are some great ideas if you do not want to wear sweatpants but can not handle jeans today.

Leggings: duh. Seriously I love these things. Although they can be tricky. Some girls are petite and can get away with wearing them with a t-shirt...not everyone. Wear a damn dress over them, or at least a long shirt.

Jeggings: same rules apply here. If anything they make you look a little more put together. (Yes I am talking about the elastic banded ones)

Bare Leg:  If the weather permits it go with shorts or a skirt. Seriously one of the most comfortable options.

High Waisted Jeans: Some may disagree but I find high waisted jeans to be really comfortable. Perk, they are very "in" now.

What other opinions do you guys have?

Also, I would loooove to take some questions. So if anyone needs any help brainstorming just let me know (it's kinda my fave thing see:The Skirt)

Stain Survival Guide

There is nothing more tragic then your favorite clothes...covered in stains! Luckily when doing laundry the other day I ran into this wonderful chart, telling how to rid your wardrobe of some basic stains.

Rust:
Cover the stain with lemon just and salt, set it in the sun for a little while. Brush off any remaining salt residue and wash like normal.

Ketchup:
Soak the garment in cold water. Rub detergent into the stain, wash normally.

Wax:
I went to a party once and some candle wax spilled on my shoe, I did this trick and it worked wonderfully. Put wax paper over dried wax and use a warm iron. It will pull it right up.

Grease:
Soak the stained area in club soda.

Coffee:
Believe me this is a tough stain, but if you pour boiling water though the stain it will help lift it out of your clothes. Try the same trick for Fruit stains, just pour the water from several feet above.

Grass:
Rub detergent into the stain with bleach that is safe for your fabric (there is no saving a bleach stain).

Lipstick:
Rub detergent into stain until outline disappears. Then wash with warm water.

Chocolate:
Soak the stain in cold water. Or sponge the area with hydrogen peroxide. Rinse and Wash.

Ink:
So many things of mine have been wrecked because a pen exploded or was thrown in the wash. If you catch it before you wash and dry, you can apply hairspray and rub the stain with a dry cloth. Continue to put rubbing alcohol on the area BEFORE you wash.

Mud:
Let the stain dry, wiping at mud will simply spread it. Brush the dry dirt off the best you can. Soak it in cold water then wash it in hot. Sponge with rubbing alcohol if necessary.

Hope this helped save you some clothes!
